Two words- Angry Edamame! It's so good, if you love garlicky and spicy food it's a must! Seriously- I love coming to this Kona- very nice atmosphere and the customer service is great. I've been to two other Kona Grills- Galleria and San Antonio La Cantera, they don't compare. Keep up the great work Waterway Kona! Every time we come a manager always greets us too!

Happy hour is 9-11. The dining room closes at 10, but you can order off the happy hour menu until the bar closes at 11. We decided on Kona Grill for my boyfriend's low key birthday dinner. They have a good selection for their happy hour and we both have found items we like on their main menu. Arrived just after 9pm and stayed until 10:30. I'd say the drinks are slightly overpriced for the ingredients they use, but the environment is nice. Ordered four rolls and an appetizer to share, along with a few pieces of nigiri. The server was a great guy, and made confident suggestions to enhance our meal. I appreciated the extra effort. He did not seem phased when the bar area filled up so quickly. Why not five stars? I'd need to go again to make sure it's worth the fifth star. But I really did enjoy the experience.

This place is a little far from me but I come any time I get the chance. I'm trying to eat a little better and I felt that Kona's had a lot of options that were somewhat healthly but still tasty. Every time I come I try something new and I'm always impressed. They have great sushi and grilled fish. The only reason i didn't give Kona's five stars is because I didn't feel that the customer service was worth five stars. It's always hit or miss. Sometimes its's great and other times its awful. I will continue to come back especially for happy hour!

Came here with great expectations, and left so disappointed it was not even funny. Service? Horrible, I went to the bar twice to get our drinks as the sever was nowhere to be found....food presentation was so sad I felt bad for them.... It was bad. Taste was ok we've had better, then we had entrees...all the gentlemen in my table had their meal, and I'm still waiting, mind you I'm the only female at the table.... Then my meal came in and the presentation itself made me almost cry, oh my!!! Well needless to say very disappointing, I ate the sea bass just because I was hungry and I needed something but it was a very disappointing experience to say the least. We asked for napkins and silverware four times before we got them, and this was almost 10 minutes after we got appetizers on the table... Needless to say we already knew we were screw up for the evening but what else could we do right???? I'm not coming back anytime soon

Been to the Kona in the Galleria countless of times. Love it! This location sadly does not match in its ABSOLUTE to the other location. Took 25 minutes just to get noticed, when we were the second group outside. Then additional 15 minutes for water. Sad sad sad. Save your money go to Uni Sushi or Fukuda.

This was my first time ever at a Kona Grill. I really loved the atmosphere. Outdoor patio seating and bar opens up to the outdoors. We were nicely greeted at the door and seated promptly. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I ordered macadamia nut chicken with veggies and mashed potatoes. It was delicious. We were checked on by the manager. It was a very nice experience and I would go back. I have to try the Kona Grill in my area.

After the 4th of July fireworks The Woodlands traffic was a nightmare. After driving around for 45 minutes we were hungry, parched and then lucky to find a parking spot right on the street, steps away from Kona Grill. Phew, what a relief we made it! Ten minutes before closing! We crept up to the hostess stand expecting a big "SORRY we're closing in ten minutes", BUT NOT HERE. The wonderful hostess greeted us like we were the first customers of the day and told us we had time to sit and order off the menu. Really? Thank you, thank you! Now, that's how Texas takes care of customers. The restaurant featured its new blue lighting decor and we found a seat at the bar in the outdoor patio. A nice urban setting is the backdrop. The bartenders quickly took our orders (Lemon drop Martini for me and a cold draft beer for Mr. G) Sadly the Tini tasted like a Crystal lite lemonade-so this is not the place to go for Craft Cocktails. However, when our food came out the bartender returned it back to the kitchen. I ordered the fish tacos and I could see that they were not tightly wrapped. They were loose and falling apart. Seems like the kitchen has some quality control issues. I loved that the bartenders took the initiative to ensure that our plate was delivered with a palatable presentation. The bartender was very friendly and told us about the area and its growth due to the new Mobil campus being built. We ordered a California roll and it was a perfect little delicious roll (but seems like their rolls are getting smaller and smaller) and when the fresh fish tacos came back they were yummy. It's my favorite item on the menu and I have been ordering the same dish for over ten years. The tacos must have been off the appetizer menu because there was no pineapple rice on the plate? Overall I was happy we got to sit down, relax and have some drinks and nibbles. I'll be back.

If there were negative stars, I'd give it here. Worst service in the U.S. 10 waiters, 1/4 full restaurant and 20 minutes for water.

Service was good but the food was mediocre and not worth the money. Went for happy hour and the sangria was ok- not bad but not special. The appetizers were pretty horrible. Potstickers fell apart and were overcooked on one side and raw on the other. Chicken wraps tasted like what you could get at a fast food place. Avocado egg rolls were pretty good but I could get the same at BJs for less. I wanted to enjoy this place but I just didn't. We won't be going back unless there are some major changes to the menu.

There's a few times a year I crave sushi. This is one of my go to's. Great atmosphere with friendly staff every time. Their happy hour is great! If you go, hit up the happy hour or else it gets very pricey. Also it may be best to show up early for good seating.

So bad we paid for our $110 check, 2 of us, of our 3/4 bottle full sake and went to another restaurant. 1st, why pay for a hostess and not have her seat EVERY guest. Even happy hour customers should have the same service. We were told to go find our own table but we was at at a non happy hour table so we don't get happy hour, really, we didn't care, it was our first time and it's already confusing. Then our server asked if we wanted happy hour, we said yes but apparently we sat at the wrong table, then the manager came asked us, by that time, ugh, how frustrating. Anyways, everything was just bad, our bill was 115.00, we left 3/4 of our sake bottle there, the tuna was not fresh, and the service just meh... We ended up going elsewhere, ate another 100 in food but that was well wroth it and super amazing.

I've been to the Kona 3 times now, twice for happy hour and once for drinks. Service has always been good for me, although reading from others it appears to be hit and miss. The hostess should seat the guests. I don't like how she just tells you if you want happy hour, sit near the bar (basically). The happy hour prices are great. The foods pretty damn good. The drinks are great too.

I used to absolutely love Kona Grill! Like the food is amazing however the service has gone down the drain and just keeps going down, I mean we waited over 5 min in the front to just be seated and then it seemed like this whole night was heading down the drain until two people decided to rectify the situation. And so long as jasmine is there as the assistant store manager I will to continue to return because she sincerely wants to provide phenomenal service to everyone. Also bless our waiter Johns heart, he also did the best he could to help us experience a better evening tonight.

This is one of my favorite places to go on the weekends! It's a beautiful restaurant (awesome patio for a nice cool evening), great food, and the best service! Love this Kona Grill.

This place has a very nice setting and design layout. I'm in love with the modernness and beautiful floor and decor. The service was nice but when I asked him about different foods they served he didn't have a clue to what I was speaking of. Other than that they were very attentive.

Kona has the best Happy Hour, honestly. I only come here during Happy Hour, you get half priced sushi, appetizers, and $6 red wine! It doesn't get much better than that. This time I tried their sauté chicken with my sushi and it was delicious. The outdoor seating is relaxing, the entire restaurant is perfectly decorated. I fell in love with their classy atmosphere. Their bathrooms were even decorated nicely and super clean.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this place. The food is delicious and eclectic. Our first time we went for happy hour and had 4 drinks and 4 different appetizers and we left spending about $40 which is a great for everything we got. I like that the location is not directly on the waterway so you don't have to deal with loud obnoxious drunks, but this place can get crowded. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is great.

Great ambience. I had sea bass. It was really good, I am not too crazy about the choice of veg that comes with it though. I also order a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon hypothesis.

I really wanted to like it. Four of us went to lunch to celebrate Mother's Day. The service was very poor -- nice girl but completely in over her head. It took twenty mintues to get the check after we asked for it. We asked for salt and the waitress looked at like she was shocked and confused. She finally said they didn't have salt but would ask. She never came back and followed up. She left empty glasses on the table. The food was okay at best. Way too expensive for mediocre food and poor service. Too bad, the menu looked great.

There's a generous amount of open tables 30mins prior to the restaurant closing. My husband and I find ourselves on the outdoor patio and ask the bussers standing near a table if there was anyone sitting there. He shakes his head but answers yes. Confused, we asked him to confirm and he walked away with his other bus buddy. After awkwardly waiting 5mins for a server (after 6 had passed us up)...I ask a male server if we need to check in for happy hour service and he replied that we could sit in or outside...then walked away without telling us if we would receive service from anyone. Another 5mins later after 3 more waiters avoided us, the same male sever approached our table with the statement, "soo they (the other servers) pushed me over to you guys...what do you want to drink?" I thought what a jerk!! If you had taken my order 10 mins ago, you could have gotten our tip. But after that kind of ugly attitude I do feel like he should be fired. Friday night is money making night, and customers who arrive 30 mins before closing should still be able to order. Or else close your kitchen at 10:30, not 11. Or just tell me that your section is closed..anything but avoiding us and then spitting in our face. Being so rude to your customer is unacceptable. I FELT SO DISCRIMINATED - hate to play the race card, but we were the only colored folk on the patio and every white person had drinks, food, and a servers attention. They were obviously still tending to tables...I've been to Kona grill happy hour in Austin and SA multiple times and the house is always packed and service is always decent up until the last minute. The woodlands waterway is a gorgeous place to entertain visitors, but if you want a late night option avoid this Kona Grill reverse happy hour!!!!

Kona Grill opened up in The Woodlands? Sweeeeet! I decided to check this Kona Grill out to see if it was any different from the Galleria location. Not much of a difference except this one was nicer. First off, the ambiance at this Kona Grill beats the Galleria's location by a huge margin. Maybe since it's newer and isn't located inside the mall, lol. Pretty modern and just looks outstanding. Onto the food...for our appetizer, we ordered the calamari. Then for sushi, we went pretty light so we just had the Spider Roll and the Shrimp Tempura Naruto. My dad had the Miso-Saké Seabass and a side order of edamame. The Calamari was amazing. The sauce they had for it was really tasty. I definitely recommend that for your appetizer. The Spider Roll and the Shrimp Tempura was okay. It's just like your every other sushi restaurant. Pretty good though, so that's all that matters. I didn't try the Miso-Saké Seabass, but my dad loved it. So if you're craving for that, I'd say he'd recommend that as well. The edamame was okay. We started off with the "Angry Edamame" and it was a little too too salty. So we had another order of just the traditional instead. The service here was stellar! The staff here is really nice and definitely knows how to take care of their customers. The hostesses were really nice and were pretty cute (same goes for my waitress) hahah. Okay, but anyways...the customer service here is an A+. We had different managers (I believe) check up on us every now and then. When they brought us out a new batch of edamame due to the saltiness of the first batch, our waitress and about two others checked in asking us if it was better. I'll definitely be back for sure. PS: I came on a Saturday night around 6:00. (Reservations are preferred and makes things easier for everybody. I didn't have one, but luckily was able to get a table)

I used to love going to Kona in Dallas. This location has passable sushi and drinks and good service. Ask for their special wasabi - delish. I'm knocking off a star on what would've been 3-stars because they wouldn't allow my 5 lb. lap dog on the patio. On. The. Patio. This is the ONLY place in The Woodlands I've run into this. Come on! The Woodlands' demographic that goes out to these types of places are yuppies with cash to burn. Guess what yuppies have - toy pups! Get with it, Kona! I'm taking my cash and puppy to another patio restaurant.

I have been here MANY times and every time it has been awful. The sushi does not taste fresh and everything is severely over priced. I got sick the last time I went here. Drinks were not impressive (cosmo was pre-made and terrible) and service is under par. There are way better places to eat in this area.

Huge fan of the Kona Grill! I was excited when I saw there was one opening up in The Woodlands having had a good experience at the North Park Dallas location years ago. They offer a variety of items from flatbreads to sushi to burgers and steak. I've had several of their sushi rolls and really enjoyed them; fresh tasting. The sweet and spicy shrimp is also fave. The burger is a damn solid choice as well with a patty that's cooked to your liking and fresh veggies. Go during happy hour (Mon-Fri 3-7) for more bang for your buck. Several rolls and some appetizers are half off. Seems that they can accommodate groups with a somewhat private dining area towards the back of the restaurant.

Went to this location & was blown away by the ambiance. Outside has fire places on the patio which you will see as you walk up to the front or side doors. The inside has an amazing set up where the bar is surrounded with high tops & the rest of the restaurant consists of tables & booths. The sushi bar is visible & the aquarium adds a super nice touch. Although the place was extremely nice, we were expecting to get Happy hour because we went in around reverse happy hour times, but was disappointed when the hostess told us that we were only to get it sitting at the bar area which was too packed to even for a couple, yet alone four people next to each other. But it was fine because we were all hungry & ready to try something new. The menu consists of mostly sushi items along with several choices of cooked entrees. We decided to order appetizers: my boyfriend & I ordered the Sweet & Spicy Shrimp, our friends the Potstickers. They were both mediocre. They put way too much sauce on the shrimp & the potstickers were somewhat bland. We then ordered the Soft Shell Crab roll which was the best thing we ordered that night even though it was a small 5 pieces. Our dinner entrees were the Basil Pesto Linguine & the Pan-fried Asian Noodles. My boyfriend didn't like either or. I liked the linguine better, but both entrees were just drenched in too much sauce. Our friends played it smart & ordered things they knew so they weren't as disappointed with the food as us. Even though our food was horrible, our service was decent. She kept our drinks refilled, checked back on us to see if we're okay often & was nice the whole time. But for future reference, I won't be ordering anything but sushi & wine if I decide to come back!

Great experience, excellent and attentive service - even got a visit from the manager to make sure all was well and yes it was! We sat on the patio enjoying the 81F March 1 afternoon. We both had salad (my Caesar salad was excellent) - my wife had a sashimi flight while I had the ahi tuna with Bok Choi which was delicious. We will definitely be back. Try it!!! You'll like it!

I met up with a friend here, we seated ourselves at the bar where we met Magic Mike. Well, the bartender's name was Mike(only he should be your bartender if you ever go...ever) and his drinks were magical. Sushi? No, I'm sure you're thinking, "But it's a sushi place..." No, just...no. I ordered three different rolls. My friend and I didn't finish any of them. Go for happy hour. Go for alcohol(as long as you're at least 21). Do it for America. My check was somewhere around $70.00. Most of it was thanks to the worst sushi I've ever experienced...but never fear, Magic Mike's drinks were worth their prices. All of them... ...did I mention I'd had a few? If you come late in the evening, the rest of the evening is happy hour so that's nice. I've eaten at the Kona Grill in the Galleria and their food was much better...even their off menu items. If you want a nice happy hour and cool ambience, come here with friends. If you want food, go somewhere else.

Very blown away almost immediately. The atmosphere is very classy but modern at the same time. The decor is very... I don't know the proper word but it just felt really nice. From the blue accent lights to the fish tanks, just overall A+ to the designer. The menu is easy enough to understand and has many options for even the pickiest of eaters. While I'm not a sushi (or seafood in general) fan, I was able to pick out 4-5 different dishes I could eat just as they were and 3-4 more I can order sans a few things. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing and understood my extremely British bf. We will definitely be coming back.

Super disappointment with the sushi. The rolls are so small and cost over $15. In addition to being small, they are terrible tasting. We had the checker roll and it was absolutely awful. The drinks are weak-very weak. My wife is truly a light weight and she had 3 sangrias........The atmosphere is a bunch of middle aged goofballs. Won't go back to this place.

I wish I can give this place 0 star. It was a horrible experience. We started out dropping our Mercedes off at the complimentary valet. The valet guy left our keys on the seat with the driver's window rolled down. We asked him if he was going to leave the vehicle unattended like that, to my surprise, he said, "yes so the next guy can get the car when he come back." We said that was not okay and that we would wait for the guy to come back. The restaurant was very nice. I really liked the atmosphere. The food was very very mediocre and OVERPRICED. my mother in law and I both ordered their most popular sushi roll, the Picasso and the Checker. We sent both back! The manager, Helen, was friendly and tried to fix our order. We ordered more dishes and they were still whatever. We also added spicy tuna hand rolls to our order. Our sushi was GROUNDED. We didn't have a full piece of sushi. To me, when you ground something that's suppose to be in a full piece, you're hiding something. Helen apologized and recommended we come in and actually try the entree since the sushi isn't really their specialty. Which confused me because it's a sushi restaurant, right? They corrected me and said it's mainly a "grill" We walked out to get our car from the valet and the valet gentleman FARTED in out car right before handing the car back to us. I've NEVER experienced anything like this in all the years of us dining out. Needless to say, we will not be coming back. I would not recommend coming here unless you want overpriced and mediocre food. Also trying to enjoy a nice meal knowing our vehicles isn't in safe keeping.

Absolutely incompetent service! Not slow...incompetent. Such a great location and atmosphere (although, the last few times I've been in there it has been DEAD and minimally staffed), it's a shame, but I don't think this place will make it. Too many other good choices to deal with very bad service.

I'd give our server 5 stars -- he was very attentive and I hope he can get a job in a good restaurant soon, but the food and drinks in this place were really bad. The decor was so inviting it just drew us in off the sidewalk, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The sushi was gummy, flabby, and tasteless. Then there was the issue of the mojitos. The mojitos tasted like they were made with mint, club soda, and rubbing alcohol. I don't like overly sweet mojitos, but there was not a hint of sweetness to balance out the flavors and there was also not a hint rum. I don't know what was in it, but that rubbing alcohol taste was a real problem. I have never in my life left a full alcoholic drink on the table, but we paid our bill, left our drinks, and got out of there.

I have eaten at the Kona Grill in the Galleria and it is not amazing but if you're shopping and wanting sake, it will do. However, this Kona Grill is horrible - they have no idea what they are doing and by they I mean the servers. I order sake and ask what the waitress recommends. She says "I am not a fan of sake" which basically means "I have no knowledge about sake what so ever". Even though this is a major pet peeve of mine when servers do this I proceeded to order a cold sake which I am familiar with. She brings it and pours half the bottle into a wine glass. Shocked to say the least. I have to ask her to bring me a sake glass (which was dirty) and she looks at me like I was out of my mind. When we had appetizers she took away our appetizer plates.. no idea why and I had to ask her to bring them back. The plates and soy sauce dishes were also dirty. The rolls were mediocre and so was the sushi. They don't have brown rice. The ONLY reason why I am not giving this restaurant one star is because the pad thai that my sister ordered was actually pretty good. I was hoping Kona would make me want to come back but I can tell you I will not.

Our friends told us we had to check this place out. We walked over before a movie to get dinner and drinks. Perfect timing because we hit Happy Hour. Now, some places in the Woodlands have Happy Hour and when you get there you find out it is only for the 3 stools at the bar. Not here. You can sit at the bar or at any of the tables in the bar area. At least 50 people worth. Anyway, we ordered $6 sushi rolls off the Happy Hour menu and some drinks. Our waitress, Kelly, was very relaxed and friendly and made us feel like we were the only ones she had to serve. After awhile the manager, Shane, stopped by to see how we were doing and we chatted for awhile. Later, he came back with a piece of their homemade carrot cake. Now, we are not fans of carrot cake but we took a bite. Now we are fans. It wasn't too sweet but just full of flavor and texture. We will order it again. This is now our new favorite spot to go when we want to relax with good food and drinks. And personable service. A first class place.

Restaurant is bright and the atmosphere and decor are nice. Hostess was great. All food was nothing to rave about and all was overpriced. Sushi was unimpressive and expensive...Kroger's sushi is better! Bigger problems: Bibb lettuce with the minced chicken had dirt on it (i.e. appeared unwashed). Pad Thai had a hair in it. Waitress was inattentive. On the way out, a staff member bumped into us and acted as if we were in his way. Did not have bar drinks, but may return for Happy Hour, but not for food ever again.

I had the opportunity to take my family to the Kona Grill tonight. The atmosphere was lively and inviting, the decor was upbeat and modern, and we were all excited to try their menu. My wife was interested in any gluten-free dishes to which our server offered to bring a gluten-free menu the restaurant offers. Directly after that she disappeared. After a while I began to look for the server and caught the eye of a man in an orange shirt and tie that was talking to other servers and looked like a manger. He asked if he could help and I pointed out that our server hadn't returned. I pointed to the melted ice in the iced tea, and all our drinks needed refills. Additionally, we were interested in ordering. He promised quick action and left. Soon after, our server returned. She asked if we needed anything, which told me that the manager hadn't told her what the table needed. So we told her and reminded her about the gluten free menu she had promised. She left and returned with more tea and the menu. She left again with a promise to be right back. We sat patiently for her return. The ice began to melt again and when I saw her in the distance I waved her down. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, a kid's Bento box, and a house salad off of the gluten free menu with a side order of steamed asparagus and green beans. With a smile, she promised that the food would be right out, and she left. As time drug on, I began to notice that the area we were sat in, slowly began to lose it's patrons. Then I noticed that all the seated sections were getting smaller and smaller as the night rolled on. I saw the man in the orange shirt again and he promised to check on the food. He returned quickly and told us that the food was almost ready. Our ice melted away, and so did the people in the restaurant. Finally I waved the man in orange again and he disappeared in the kitchen looking for our server and our food. This time he returned with our server and our food. "I'm sorry" he explained, "There were a lot of orders in the kitchen." We settled down to our meal and my wife pointed out that her gluten-free house salad had croutons on it and the steamed vegetables weren't brought out. Frustrated with the service, I flagged our server down and asked to talk to the manager. After the 3 rolls were eaten, the bento box was polished off, and our glasses stood empty once again on the table, a lady came out holding a plate of steamed asparagus. "I heard you were waiting for some steamed vegetables," she said as she approached the table. "The green beans didn't look up to my standard so I sent them back. They should be out shortly." She continued to ask us how we were and if we needed anything. She wasn't in uniform nor was she dressed as nice as the guy in orange so I was at a loss who they person might be. She began to withdrawal and walk away. Then it occurred to me that she might be a manager so I stopped her and told her that we were having difficultly with the service, and the food. She apologized that she was not included in the beginning of the whole process. I didn't understand what that meant so I continued. I pointed out that our table was one of 2 still in the back of the restaurant. The excuse that the kitchen had a lot of orders seemed like an exaggeration since over 10 tables had left from the time we had ordered. And, I pointed out, the only thing that needed to be made (i.e. cooked) was the steamed vegetables and we still had to remind the server about that. She didn't know what else to say or do, she said. I was shocked. I pointed out that I didn't know who she was, since she didn't introduce herself, nor did I know where she fit in the whole organization of the restaurant. I told her that I hadn't even heard an apology. She responded quickly, I told you I was sorry when I came to the table. I pointed out that being sorry that you were not part of the process from the beginning is not an apology. The conversation continued as did her arguing. Eventually she apologized but the steamed green beans never appeared, for which she offered to take it off the bill. The half-hearted apology and the "gracious" gesture of removing the green beans from the bill left a poor taste in my mouth. It doesn't matter how delicious the food can be. If the service and the management are poorly trained, and customer service is only paid lip service then it isn't a place worth spending time or money.

Upscale atmosphere, reasonable prices and a variety of options for most palates. Ive had catered food from Kona at the office- great crusted chicken with a miso sauce, veggies, salads, mashed potatoes. They also have sushi, sandwiches and dinner items. I have consistently heard good feedback from others that have dined there for dinner and frequent for lunch. We ordered 4 rolls to share and they were all great. In addition, we had potstickers for the table. The menu was too big to study during a business lunch, but id def go back and order up something amazing sounding. This is a great addition to the Woodlands Waterway area, especially for the nearby business lunch crowd.

Had another great experience at Kona Grill! Our waiter, Chris, took great care of us from recommendations, service, flexibility with our orders and made quite an impression by humoring our 4 and 7 year olds. The main menu is broad enough to keep you trying new things and the kids' menu is just as broad featuring dishes that aren't the usual junk. We'll be coming back again and again - and requesting Chris as our server.

The food is great. We had a lot of items off the Happy Hour menu- that's the time to go for a great value- and all of them were amazing. The sushi was fresh tasting and made with nice ingredients. The flatbread was unique, had a Nice crispy crust with well seasoned, generous toppings. The sliders are the size of a regular burger! The meat is a large, well cooked and fresh beef patty. Delicious. The reasons they get a four, the Happy Hour drinks are small and very weak and the service is slow.

I've eaten here twice recently. The food and drinks were good. The service was efficient and friendly. Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Keep an eye on the adjacent garage which charged us, even though we had validation for up to 2 hours (we were only in there slightly over an hour.)

We went there for a mid afternoon weekend lunch, so there wasn't much of a crowd. Service was good without the server feeling too attentive. The food was hot and tasty. They had a good variety of salads and other healthy options. The desserts were outstanding. We had the Snicker's Bar Ice Cream cake and a huge piece of Carrot Cake that were shared by 4 adults with some left over. That was probably the best carrot cake I'd ever had. Definitely coming back here some day.

If it were Sunday every day, this place would be 5 stars! The food is outstanding as they have a vast menu that can suit anybody's taste. It's a bit pricey but they do have quality service and great management. In just a 2 minute walk you could be at The Woodlands Mall, Cinemark Theater and countless local pours. It's a great place to spend a date or even have some drinks with friends. They do have a nice back area that can accommodate parties ranging from 10-20. Overall, you can tell Kona Grill takes care of their patrons by rolling out quality food with a great overall atmosphere. While you may pay a little extra for some simple menu items, it ends up being worth it in the end. Patio pleasing on Sunday as they have all-day Happy Hour!

Ugh as much as I hate to say this, went for lunch... It was not so good this time. Ordered fish tacos with pork fried rice.... Fish tacos tasted funky and the fried rice had a glossiness to it, took a bite, super fishy tasting and crunchy as if it was left out all night :( really not happy about this visit :( maybe I need to try something different! Oh yeah had edamame to start, tasted fishy as well, my boyfriend agreed. And it was literally impossible to get the beans out of the pods. I eat Japanese food all the time, and that edamame was just not right Sake and Kirin light we're pretty much the only thing I enjoyed today. But just now, great manager, brought me a 10$ gift card to kona because of the inconvenience :)

The food was decent for a chain restaurant. The drinks from the bar were light on alcohol. Service was great though.

This was our very first experience having dinner at kona Grill. I love the name especially since I am from the islands, however the food here was a disgrace to our culture. We should have stayed at home and I make a better sushi then the over priced ones we had at kona grill. What turned me off from the start was when the server brought our food he was juggling (4 plates in his hand with the sushi rubbing against his belly because either he was too lazy to find a serving tray). The pot stickers were like some won ton wrappers with some kind mystery meat, bland taste, but it only looked pretty. The drinks were so watered down we should have sent it all back. Not going back anytime soon

Came here for lunch one day. Great food and the service was even better. Would definitely come here again. If it's the good weather months I recommend sitting outside on the patio.

Not impressed. We began with lettuce wrap appetizers which were ok. I had the macadamia nut crusted chicken and if it wasn't for the sauce that comes with it - it would be terrible! Dry and tasteless. If they told me I was eating a rubber chicken, I would have believed them. My spouse had the Kona filet which wasn't cooked to order and since he's trying to eat Paleo he asked for extra veggies instead of mashed potatoes and was sorely disappointed with the portion which was more like normal portion minus the mashed potatoes. Overall, neither of us were impressed and will not return.

Impressively mediocre sushi. Maybe the cooked entrees are better? Probably not, judging from the burnt-ass potstickers. Avoid, avoid. Service was amazing, weirdly.

We visited Kona Grill tonight to celebrate my daughter's 17th birthday. I was anticipating that the patio would be busy due to the lovely evening, and it was. Fortunately, we found 1 open table. Almost as soon as we were seated, we were greeted by Nick, our server. Nick was attentive and courteous throughout our entire visit. He checked back on us several times during our meal, refilling our drinks as well. Towards the end of our visit, Jasmine, the manager, stopped by to make sure everything was all right. I asked if she could tell our server we wanted to order one more thing, and she said she would be happy to take care of it. When the order was made, it was incorrect, but NIck came out immediately to tell us what was happening and then Jasmine came out with the correct order. The food was excellent, incredibly priced (happy hour all day Sunday!) and the service was impeccable. This is my 2nd visit and it was every bit as good as my first.I would come here again just to see Nick and Jasmine! Thanks for a great celebration!

This is an Uber-trendy sushi place nestled in the downtown area of the Woodlands. The atmosphere is outstanding, the waitstaff meticulously detail oriented, and the food very chic. The chefs at Kona Grill have some unique twists on on what would be otherwise considered garden-variety sushi restaurant fare. Take, for example, the angry edamame. This dish of steamed soybean pods is infused with a number of spices, including enough chili Pepper to make my Indian friend cry in gastronomic ecstasy. The sushi itself is good, but not great. The atmosphere, the incredible service, and the attention to detail more than make up for sushi that is decent but not memorable. While there is no formal dress code, don't come in shorts and flip-flops as you will feel incredibly out of place. No ties or cuff links are needed either, but be sure to don your most trendy attire in order to fit in with the hipster clientele.

We have been here 4 or 5 times. We've enjoyed our food every time, never had bad service. Drinks and wine have always been spot on... We have tried a number of appetizers and entree's and even salads, all of which have been good. The restaurant is beautiful and they have a great indoor/outdoor bar with lovely outdoor seating. They have a nice happy hour menu... Overall good place... Why 3 stars and not more, no particular reason. I just think it's over all good not wow or fantastic. Go, try it out and enjoy yourself.

The food is absolutely amazing! Saki Bombs were the bomb! The Ribeye was excellent as well! Service is top notch. This was our first time here and our server William went above and beyond. The food is very reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended to everyone!

My wife and I stopped in for dinner here, I wish I had not. The services was slow and I felt like we were inconveniencing the staff by being there. They were busy but not swamped. There were always empty tables but a seemingly steady flow of people. The food seemed a bit pricey but with many tables full we thought it must be worth it. It wasn't. You can get an equally satisfying meal for much less at a fast food joint and not get attitude from the staff. There are much better places to eat in walking distance from this place.

Disgusting. Period. The food was poorly prepared. Lifeless salads, tasteless steaks, sickie-sweet quasi-Asian dishes. Pushy waitress, only interested in "selling" more food. None of us finished our entrees and none of us plan to return. If you are looking for Americanized Asian, you are better off going to P.F. Chang's. And no, I have nothing to do with P.F. Chang's.

Great Place for Happy Hour! They have a great happy hour menu. The drinks are great and the service is good. They have 2 happy hours one early on during the day and the reverse happy hour is from 9 to close. Not bad at all. Great atmosphere.

We sat there for at least 20 minutes holding menus and trying to make eye contact with anyone who appeared to work there. A few of the wait staff looked at us, but did not bother to come over. Really? Nobody available to take a drink order after 20+ minutes? So we walked out. I should have looked at all their reviews first. There are multiple reports of slow/crappy service. Forget this place.

This review is for the service only. I arrived at 9:07 for their reverse happy hour and we weren't greeted until 10 minutes later and when the waitress finally came by we said we were ready to order but she insisted to get our waters and didn't come back to take our order till 9:27. I was sitting in the bar area and there was only 1 other table and they already had their food. I don't come hear for the good food I come hear because they pretty reasonable cheap happy hour that lasts till 11 pm.

Great quality of sushi. If you are more of a sushi only person (not rolls, just fish on rice) then you'll like it here. Generous cuts of fish on rice (no thin tissue paper slices of fish) nice thick cuts!! Apps are good. We had the avocado spring roll and spinach artichoke dip. For dessert we shared the giant red velvet cake (it's like a slice that's 1/4 of an entire cake) and butter cake (tasted like my mom's) all tasty and reasonably priced!

Good food, good service, great happy hour. I like the one in Dallas little bit better but this one is great. Outside they have patio seating and misters for a hot day. Go grab a margarita some good sushi and half-price appetizers during happy hour. Great bang for the buck.

The worst sushi ever! We tried 5 rolls and they were all disgusting! The waitress made mistakes with our whole order and she didn't apologize or comp anything.

It's a nice place. It's not as Hawaiian as you may think though. Just a heads up - their "Jambalaya" doesn't taste like jambalaya. I'm not saying it's bad, it just doesn't taste like jambalaya.

If you like excellent customer service or if you like being treated like a human being DO NOT go to Kona grill in the woodlands, at least for reverse happy hour. Me and my wife decided to go last night for a few sushi rolls and drinks. Upon our arrival we were not greeted by any Kona grill employees. So we decided to seat our selves on the patio. There was still 30 min left of happy hour. I watched 6 waiters and waitresses walk passed us as we tried to ask them what was going on. Every single employee the worked the reverse happy hour on 10/17/2014 completely ignored me and my wife. When we finally got service, the waiters first statement to us was, "I guess they are (Kona employees) pushing me toward you guys." I have never been so disrespected in my life. This place is totally unprofessional and has the most douche bag employees in any establishment I have been in. We and my wife walked out after that statement. I'll never go to Kona grill again.

Its a nice place but didnt like the food at all! The sushi tasted like a super market made roll and the kids chicken nuggets tasted like frozen nuggets. I may come back for a drink, they have a nice bar, but not for the food.

I found a new happy hour restaurant in The Woodlands that is outstanding. The Kona Grill has delicious flat bread pizzas for 50% off during happy hour as well as $3 beers and $4 wines. I even had a spicy shrimp roll for only $3.5 during happy hour as well. Friendly bar staff and waiters make this place one of my favorite places for happy hour in the Woodlands.

Great appetizers and drinks but didn't stay for dinner. Seems like a cool hang out place on the weekend. Also close to the pavilion so makes for a good before meet up.

Nice atmosphere and pretty good service. Food not great. We had avocado rolls, angry edamame, pear and Brie flatbreads as apps and then various sushi rolls. Would return but probably not eat.

Kona Grill had been recommended by several people and so I was excited to try it. I am not a huge fan of sushi, but this came highly recommended and I am always up to try new things. We decided to try several items from the happy hour and I can honestly say I didn't like even one dish. It was obvious the sushi was not fresh and each roll tasted the same. The service was good and the outdoor area is nice, however the food was very dispointing.

I had a great experience at Kona Grill last week & have been too busy to tell you all about it, but I need to because it was a rare experience & deserves to be acknowledged. I have been eying this place since I noticed it being built. The decor was super sexy and the food was really great. Now for the most important part.. Mid meal the manager, Helen came to our table to check on us. She asked how everything was & being the person that I am I couldn't hold back. My friend wasn't happy with her dish, so I politely let her know. (It was just fried rice & my friend really wasn't hungry, so nothing was appealing to her. I tried it & it was great!) My friend was trying to not make a big deal about it & would have just wasted it & paid. Helen wasn't having any of that. She asked if she could get her something else & my friend replied no. This is the point when most would have said ok, apologized, and walked away. Helens words after that, "I have a full kitchen, we can make you anything that you want. Nobody leaves my restaurant hungry." Of course this was music to my ears. How sweet of her to go above and beyond to make sure that her guest is taken care of! It's sad, but that's a rare quality these days. Most would have said the bare minimum & left it alone. Helens going above & beyond really showed not only her professionalism, but also that she has a passion for what she does. We spoke to her for a little bit after that & she was just too sweet not to praise. She made our experience better than just having great food, she made us feel valued and welcome. I'm definitely excited to go back for a date night. Kona Grill & Helen are definitely getting two thumbs up from me! :)

I really enjoy the sushi and the service. Unfortunately, living in Texas has prompted the restaurant to install "misty fans". I was told the fans are on a timer; however, after relaxing on the patio for well over an hour to my surprise mist (felt like a mini shower) was spraying over my head. I informed the manager that I personally don't prefer to get sprained every few seconds and its really not conducive for all cultures. He offered to move me and my guest inside but I declined b/c as mentioned I was comfortable. I think the misty fans should be re-evaluated or turned on at customers request.

Had dinner with a party of six on a Saturday night. Loved the atmosphere! Great decor! Nice bar area. But the service is SLOW. We ordered drinks, a few glasses of wine and a couple of cocktails and it took around 25 minutes to arrive. For appetizers we had the edamame, calamari, and sweet & spicy shrimp. The calamari were over battered and floury. The shrimp had a good flavor, but were small. I had the rainbow and sunshine roll. That was the blandest most unappealing rolls that I have ever had! The best part was the pickled ginger. I will not be eating sushi here again! The highlight of the meal was the passion fruit creme brûlée. It had a good flavor and creamy texture. If I happen to eat here again I will definitely avoid the sushi.

Do not waste your money on cocktails. First visit we ordered one of their novelty items from their cocktail menu. We thought because it was one of these items that it would come with a hefty price but not a hefty shot. Last night we went in again and got totally hosed when we ordered martinis. Standard martinis - not cosmos or appletinis or any other concoction - Grey Goose martinis. They were awful. Thinking it was a fluke, we ordered a second round. It wasn't a fluke. The martinis sucked. Either it was not Grey Goose, the vodka was diluted or both but at 12-bucks a pop I thought it only fair to warn people. On more complimentary note, their happy hour menu was a huge value and the food was very, very good. Food: $20.00 Drinks: $50.00 Stick with beer and wine if you choose to have a drink at this place

New Woodlands restaurant is great! What a great place, can get fresh sushi, meatloaf and burgers all at same restaurant! Food was fresh tasting, great flavor and service was excellent. Ambiance is excellent as well. This place is going to be great. Only downside is parking is not too close. But we loved it!
